Welcome to the OSMTJ Grand Priory of Englan & Wales “Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem.”  The Knights Templar is a Christian fraternal chivalric Order.  Our order vows to hold to the virtues of Honesty, Loyalty, Perseverance, Charity, Humility, Courtesy, Courage, and Honor.  We take our vows very seriously and hold each other accountable to them.

Historically, the Knights Templar, or “Templars,” were a Christian order founded almost 900 years ago in 1118 AD.  Named for the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, the Templars initially protected pilgrims traveling through the Holy Lands, but eventually evolved into a powerful military force that waged war to protect the Holy Land during the Crusades (See “History” tab). Essentially these were warrior monks.

The Knights Templar of today are in many parts of the world and in Europe we are known as the Ordre Souverain et Militaire du Temple de Jérusalem (OSMTJ.net) which is translated for each Priory into their own language.  For example, the Italian Priory translates OSMTJ as “Ordre Souverain et Militaire du Temple de Jerusalem. The Grand Prior of England and Wales is James Caro.

One of our primary focuses is raising money and awareness for our chosen charity or charities.

The 12th century Cistercian Abbot, Bernard of Clairvaux wrote, “The Knight Templar is truly a fearless knight and secure on every side, for his soul is protected by the armor of faith just as his body is protected by armor of steel. He is thus doubly armed and need fear neither demons nor men. Not that he fears death–no, he desires it. Why should he fear to live or fear to die when for him to live is Christ, and to die is gain? Gladly and faithfully he stands for Christ, but he would prefer to be dissolved and to be with Christ, by far the better thing.”

Why live a boring life when you can do something extraordinary by dedicating your life to our Lord Jesus Christ and charity in his name by being a Templar Knight?  Why not do something to make a difference in the world for good?   Be part of an ancient holy order that has been around for almost 900  years. Being a Knight Templar is not a remnant of the past, it is a way of life.  It will not be easy, but the transformation into a Knight Templar will change your life.  The International  Priories of the Knights Templar are  looking for those upstanding Christians interested in becoming exceptional.  Few are chosen and the standards are rigorous, but the reward of Knighthood in this ancient and storied Order awaits you.  Do you dare to try?
